- **Bishopston Valley:** This enchanting valley is filled with local legends and folklore, making it a captivating part of the walk.
- **Romano British Iron Age Camp:** This historical site provides an interesting detour for those interested in ancient history.
Leave the Beaufort Arms and cross the road directly ahead onto Kittle Green.
Follow the gravel track towards Great Kittle Farm. There is a higher and a lower route here; the lower route is rocky and technical in parts, passing geological features and a guzzle hole where you can hear and glimpse the underground river.
Follow the narrow track on the higher route past the farm. This can get overgrown in summer, so a stick can be handy.
The track skirts behind Belvedere Close in Kittle and weaves, climbs, and descends into Bishopston Valley. The valley is a magical place (see stories below).
Keeping the river to your left, the path gradually meets a bridge which will take you up towards Backingston.
Stay on the lower path until it widens into a marshy area. Keep left by the river, an area of botanical interest that is particularly peaceful. You will reach the locally known ‘Iron Bridge’. This section becomes easier and more populated.
The Iron Bridge will lead to the end of Backingstone Lane. Stay on the lower path to reach Pwlldu (see walk: The Beaufort to Pwlldu- Joiners- circular).
An alternative route will take you over the bridge and up the track to your right to a Romano British Iron Age Camp (see information below).
Follow Backingstone Lane to Pyle Corner and then head left up Bishopston Road towards the primary school.
Pass the school, and the Joiners Inn will be on your left with the Valley pub to your right.
Leave the Joiners Inn and take the first left down the hill into the valley and through St. Teilo's Church.
This medieval church is dedicated to St. Teilo who, with St. David, helped found St. David’s Cathedral.
As you leave the church, note the cobbled road before ascending the steep old road, once the main route to market. This will take you back to the Beaufort Inn.
