THE WALK

Llanrhidian

Llanrhidian to Nether Mill

Start from the village, heading towards the church.

Explore Llanrhidian, noting its historical mills. The Nether or Lower Mill, rebuilt in 1803, was the last working mill in Gower.

Nether Mill to Weobley Castle

Follow the route through fields and stiles.

Enter a walled/hedged track, passing through 3 gates.

Observe Leason Mill ruins in a man-made pond on your right.

Weobley Castle

Take the signed track uphill. In 50 meters, turn right through a gate into woodland.

Follow the path through the woodland, keeping to the left edge of the field.

Enjoy views of Berges Island and the estuary.

At the field gate, turn right and walk along the wooded slope base below Weobley Castle.

Reach a stony track and turn left to ascend to Weobley Castle.

Visit the castle (Cadw charge; open 9:30am – 5 or 6pm). It dates back to the 14th century, built by the de la Bere family.

Weobley Castle to Leason

Leave the castle via the track to the road. Turn left, then right, crossing a stone stile.

Follow the road uphill for about 250m, watching for a signed gate on the left.

Cross the field half-right, then follow the path through several fields towards Leason.

Leason to Pen-yr-allt

Follow the grassy walled path around Lower Leason Farm, then take the lane through Leason.

Just past the last building on the left, cross a stile into a field.

Head left across the field to a gate, then cross another field to a stile by a gate in the far left corner.

Continue through two more gates, then head right along a rough grassy field.

Follow the diverted path away from properties, through a gate, and then through a fenced section to exit via a gate by a large barn.

Cross the yard of Pen-yr-allt Farm into a walled grassy track on the right of the farmhouse. Look left over the wall to see Staffal Haegr ponds.

Pen-yr-allt to Llanrhidian

Follow the path along the top of the wooded slope.

Enter the upper part of Llanrhidian at Malt Hall, with views across to Cil Ifor hill fort.

Take the lane left downhill, pass the Community Hall, and continue to the main village road just above the church.

Return to your car.
