THE WALK

Port Eynon

**From The Seafarer**:

Head right towards the toilet block and Skysea Campsite.

Before reaching the campsite, turn left and continue towards a stone wall with a small gate. Go through the gate.

(A left turn here would take you to the old Porteynon lifeboat station, now a YHA.)

**Permissive Path**:

Continue along the permissive path through the campsite fields towards Skysea Bay and The Salthouse.

**The Salthouse**:

On your left is the Salthouse, surrounded by many stories and legends. It was allegedly the home of John Lucas, a notorious and dangerously handsome figure akin to Robin Hood.

**Skysea**:

As you pass Skysea, you encounter the site named with a Norse origin and the location of the tragic shipwreck of the SS Agnes Jack.

**Quarry and Obelisk**:

Proceed along the widest narrow track towards the quarry. Climb up to the obelisk memorial dedicated to the founder of the Gower Society.

**Overton Mere and Culver Hole**:

Bear right towards Overton Mere, keeping a safe distance from the cliff edge on your left.

Pass over the intriguing Culver Hole, a rock staircase with windows overlooking the wild coast.

**Descending to Overton Mere**:

At the end above the mere, a rocky but accessible path will lead you down to the sheltered bay of Overton, an ideal picnic spot adorned with beautiful flowers growing among the limestone rocks.

**Lower Path**:

Follow the lower path. Along the way, you’ll find options to leave the path and return to Overton village.

**Longhole and Limestone Kiln**:

Continue to Longhole. The cliff path narrows as you approach the limestone kiln.

Longhole is an important bone cave, providing significant insights into the area’s history.

**Climbing the Valley**:

Climb up the glacial-cut valley, following the Gower limestone wall.

At the top, turn right and walk the track between the trees to the farm gate leading to Overton.

**Overton Village**:

Walk through the picturesque village, noting one of Gower’s oldest houses on your left.

Follow the quiet lane as it curves left and starts to climb. Look for a turning right through a camping field leading back via the caravan park to Porteynon, where you began.
